Better late than never

Here's a picture of our editor, Jerry, furiously trying to finish my package late Tuesday afternoon. Hundreds of local TV stations across the country are praying he doesn't make a mistake, because if he does, he'll mess up their entire newscast. You see, as soon as he's finished, we feed out my story to our affiliates, who then run it during their 5 or 6 pm news. If it's not there, newscast producers suddenly have a minute-and-a-half long hole in their newscast, and they'll have no choice but to run the lottery numbers or another "Mr. Food" segment.

I'm afraid to say, I left Jerry in a bit of a pinch today. I went a half-hour past my writing deadline. Too much daydreaming, I guess. Just one more day on the job...
