Covering a Horrible Crash

So I spent the last couple days in the mountains... again... covering another Colorado snowstorm. This one took a deadly turn.

The van you see above was filled with 15 people when it crashed and rolled... killing four passengers. They were all illegal immigrants who'd paid a "coyote" $3000 to bring them from the Mexico border to Kansas City for work.

The driver... a real class act... ran off into the snowy woods right after the crash. He was found a few hours later.

The roadway was a mess... and at the risk of sounding really gross... we had to be careful where we stepped, because there was so much blood all over the highway.

Now... thankfully... the 23-year-old Mexican national accused of crashing the van may become the first person charged under a new Colorado law that makes human trafficking a felony.

It's a huge problem here in Colorado... and it'll likely only get worse.
