The Death of Darrent Williams

Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting early Monday, his limousine sprayed with bullets in downtown Denver.

His death came hours after the Denver Broncos were eliminated from the playoff race.

Shortly after 2 a.m., a white Hummer limousine was fired on from a vehicle that pulled up along its side. As many as a dozen bullet holes were visible on the driver's side of the vehicle. One window was blown out and four others had bullet holes.

Fox 31 has learned that Williams, along with teammates Javon Walker and Brandon Marshall were involved in a minor altercation with another group of people at a nightclub at 10th and Broadway where Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin was hosting a New Year’s Eve/Birthday party.

The shooting occurred at 11th and Speer Boulevard shortly after the group left the party. There were more than a dozen people packed inside the stretched Hummer limousine when the shots were fired, Fox 31 has learned.

Sources say Williams died instantly from a gunshot wound to the neck, and he expired in Javon Walker’s lap.

Fox 31 has also learned that Williams was to attend the wedding of teammate Nick Ferguson Monday evening. The wedding was postponed.
