Tough Story

So, it's been one of those crazy weeks. On Wednesday, Taunia and I had just sat down to lunch when our stations called. There was a hostage standoff in a small high school near Bailey, Co. A guy was inside, holding students against their will.

Over the next few hours, we watched it all unfold. Taunia hovered overhead in Sky 9, shooting pictures of the swat teams entering Platte Valley High School in Bailey... and showing 16-year-old Emily Keyes being wheeled out on a gurney, moments before she was pronounced dead from the shooting.

These stories are tough, because they're professionally challenging, and, in a strange way, they're exhilerating to cover. But at the same time, stories like this stink. Because nobody wants to talk about a teenager, killed in her classroom by a deranged pervert.

If you saw any chopper video on NBC News or MSNBC yesteday, Taunia shot it. I also did live reports for Fox News Channel, CNN, and local stations in St. Louis, Los Angeles and Seattle.
